Malpensa towards a Cargo Community System: the evolution of the digital cargo ecosystem continues
The development of Milan Malpensa’s cargo ecosystem continues, moving steadily towards the creation of a true Cargo Community System (CCS): an integrated digital platform designed to foster collaboration among the stakeholders, improve information sharing and enhance both the quality and timeliness of data.
Among the main ongoing developments is the completion of the Export module, with the release of its final functional step introducing a new dashboard dedicated to monitoring mandatory cargo data transmissions to the ecosystem. This new functionality will provide operators with greater visibility over the status of shared information and enable automatic notifications when specific events occur, helping to improve data quality.
At the same time, a new frontend has been developed for the ecosystem and will soon be integrated with a user registration and management module. This component will form the foundation of the new CCS infrastructure, enabling a more structured management of access rights and operational user profiles.
One of the most significant innovations concerns the Import module, which is currently in the design phase and already undergoing initial implementation activities. The new solution will provide freight forwarders with a single access point to monitor the status of inbound shipments, improving visibility across the entire process and promoting greater coordination among logistics chain stakeholders.
A dedicated slot-booking module is also under evaluation. The system will allow the booking of loading and unloading time slots at Malpensa’s cargo warehouses, with the aim of optimizing the planning of operational activities.
Further developments are also underway for airside processes. A dolly-tracking system has recently been released for ramp handlers and will be further enhanced with dedicated dashboards for analyzing movements, locations and equipment availability. Development also continues on the digital interface between ramp and warehouse operations, aimed at ensuring greater process control and enabling the measurement of operational performance.
All solutions already implemented or currently under development will be accessible either through a web portal or via APIs, allowing operators to integrate functionalities directly into their existing systems and tools.
Through these developments, Milan Malpensa continues its journey towards a more digital, connected, and collaborative cargo supply chain, laying the foundations for an ecosystem capable of supporting greater operational efficiency and shared information management across the entire logistics chain.
