Smart City
The digital ecosystem of Milan Malpensa Cargo
Smart City is Milan Malpensa’s Cargo Community System (CCS), enabling digital information exchange among all cargo supply chain stakeholders.
The ecosystem integrates operational and information flows related to shipment handling, improving efficiency, data quality and coordination across the Malpensa cargo community.
The CCS therefore serves as the core digital infrastructure for cargo processes within Cargo City.
Core services
Malpensa’s CCS includes a number of core services that are completely free of charge for users.
Enables freight forwarders or their delegates to digitally submit information on export cargo, accelerating the document acceptance process.
Mandatory for all operators since October 6, 2025.
Centralizes and provides access to operational and customs information on inbound shipments, offering a single view and real-time status updates.

OLGA Project – Truck Pooling
As part of the EUROPEAN OLGA – hOListic & Green Airports project, Milan Malpensa Cargo is testing innovative solutions to improve the sustainability of airport activities and freight-related ground mobility. The project brings together several European airports and the entire aviation value chain to reduce its environmental impact.
One of the initiatives developed at Malpensa is Truck Pooling, a web app that allows operators to post transport requests or available spare capacity on vehicles traveling to and from Cargo City. The platform identifies potential matches between compatible needs, encouraging shared journeys. Its goal is to improve vehicle utilization, reduce empty trips and help lower mileage, emissions and transport costs.
Co-funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement n° 101036871.
Cargo Digital Showcase
The Digital Ecosystem Showcase is the gateway to the datasets, APIs and digital solutions supporting Cargo Community System services.
Through the Showcase, all cargo supply chain stakeholders can share and leverage their information to improve the efficiency and quality of cargo processes, while accessing information flows made available by other ecosystem participants.
The Showcase provides access to:
- Datasets and information flows useful to cargo community operators, who may request access to integrate and enhance their applications and services. Access requests are assessed by the data owner and managed by SEA;
- Digital solutions developed by operators using these information flows, helping spread and share operational best practices across the community.
Through the Showcase, users can:
- browse available information flows;
- access technical documentation for machine-to-machine integrations;
- request access to data, subject to authorization by the relevant data owner;
- discover and promote digital solutions developed by operators.
The Showcase does not directly provide operational services. Instead, it makes data, application interfaces and technical documentation available, facilitating integration between operators’ systems and the development of new digital services for the cargo community.
